Side Channel Creation and Dam Removal
Anchor QEA participated in a side channel reconnection project. The goal of this project was to create a natural side channel that could remain connected to the mainstem channel without routine maintenance. The channel also needed to support salmonid spawning without dewatering during low flows.
We evaluated two alternatives that focused on enhancing fish habitat, hydraulic connectivity to the mainstem, sediment transport potential, construction feasibility, and cost. We collected and analyzed water level data from the mainstem river and side channel, and performed hydraulic modeling and geomorphic evaluation.
