What’s the Opportunity?

Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time ENTRY-LEVEL GEOLOGIST in the Seattle office. This position will primarily focus on planning and implementing field investigations (soil, groundwater, and/or sediment) and subsequent reporting of investigation findings on contaminated sites throughout the United States.

 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for writing sampling and analysis plans, implementing field sampling programs, and preparing data reports summarizing the field investigations (including drafting of boring logs) and sample results.  Field work will include the collection of sediment, soil, and groundwater samples, installing groundwater monitoring wells, and logging sediment and soil cores using physical soil descriptions in accordance with ASTM D 2488 (Standard Practice for Description and Identification of Soils – Visual Manual Procedure including soil type, density/consistency of soil) and ASTM D 2487 (Standard Practice for Classification of Soils for Engineering Purposes [Unified Soil Classification System]). Much of the field work will occur aboard a boat (research vessel) and some out of town travel will be required.

 

Additional responsibilities include operating and maintaining field equipment such as a GPS, photoionization detector, and water quality meter, and driving a company field vehicle.

 

Advanced work may include developing conceptual site models related to site hydrogeology and developing an understanding of potential contaminant loading from groundwater to site sediments and surface waters, participating in groundwater remediation feasibility studies; and site cleanup.

 

What Are We Looking For?

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Master’s Degree in Geology (Environmental/Hydrogeology) or the equivalent professional experience (2+ years of environmental consulting experience)
  • Preference will be given to candidates with extensive coursework in environmental sciences or chemistry
  • Geologist in Training (or professional licensure) is desired, but consideration will be given to individuals who currently are on track to become a GIT/PG within 1-2 years.
  • Ability to multitask
  • Detail oriented with meticulous field note taking and field data organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must
  • Ability to organize and maintain field equipment
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
